Conversations with women, Empowerment, Fit Advice, Triumph

Paula Svoboda knows a thing or two about bras. Having fit over 50 000 women across her career, she has famously become known as the Triumph bra whisperer – she can instantly tell a woman her size just by looking at them. Paula works on the lingerie floor of David Jones, Sydney, so feel free to drop in, say hello, ask for advice and experience a complimentary fitting.

Tell us about your journey to becoming an Expert in Fit?

I have always been in retail as a really enjoy helping women. I was working in general cosmetics but looking for more when I first heard about the job with Triumph. I went for it and 20 years on, have never looked back!

What do you love most about bra fitting?

Seeing a woman leave wearing the bra I had just fitted her in, walking with confidence, a smile and a kick in her step!

Tell us about one of your most memorable fitting experiences?

I have so many memorable fitting experiences, but one of late would be a daughter and her mother. They came in I could see straight away the bra her mother was wearing was not right (I’ll explain more later!). They were after the Endless Comfort Wirefree Bra style, and asked for a size 18DD…just by looking I could see that size was not going to be right. I was very honest from the start, explaining how a fitting experience can really help her find the right style (and size) to suit her bust shape (which was quite low and under the arms so to speak). Once in the fitting room, she revealed how she had ripped the wire out of her current bra (a big no no!) and how long she has been wearing it (the bra had certainly had its day!!). I ended up fitting her into a 14F, which made her breasts look amazingly uplifted and sitting where they should be! She was so happy that she brought three, and wore one out! She could not thank me enough and told me how she didn’t realise how easy the experience would be.

Some women get a little nervous about the whole fitting experience…Do you have any advice for them?

My advice would be to not worry! We are all women, built all the same, with the same parts! I am there to do one job and that is to make your boobs look amazing!

What are some of the most important tips women should know about bras or breasts?

Bras really only last 6-12 months depending on the amount of times you are wearing it so please always buy new ones or alternate the ones you use. If a bras wire is digging in, or its riding up the back, if straps are falling off shoulders, boobs falling out of the base or popping out of the cup…. it's NOT the bra! You have likely changed size – perhaps lost or put on weight, and therefore in need of a fitting!

What is your favourite go-to Triumph bra and why?

Ladies you all need a bra wardrobe.... a bra for all occasions, but my go to bra would be Airy Sensation T-shirt bra. Its’ smooth spacer cup moulds to the breast, making it great for under t-shirts and comes in a great size range for all!

Are there any new styles that you are loving at the moment?

Customers are really loving the new Amourette Charm styles. I love the two-tone effect on the lace, it’s very pretty and feminine. The bra is super light and the lace is thinner making it appear smooth and invisible under clothes. It creates a lovely natural shape with comfortable support.

What is your definition of a strong, triumphant women?

A strong triumphant woman to me is someone who isn't afraid to share her opinions and speak her truth! She listens, is filled with kindness, generosity, compassion, integrity and authenticity! No matter what she is true to herself.
